Whassup,
I got banned from LinkedIn again. For three days.
No reason was given. I just found I was logged out on my phone on Monday morning, and when I tried to log back in, I couldn't.
The LinkedIn police had made a citizens arrest, and I was sent to jail at their pleasure.
I suspect I know why - I posted something truthful about everyone's favourite false profit, Steven Bartlett and I suspect he didn't like what I had to say. He doesn't tend to like people calling out his BS.
So there was that.
I'm also currently in the middle of revamping my website.
(Shout out to the brilliant Holly at Simply Sites for her epic work on it)
What I know about web design, building, maintenance and overall 'websiting' you could probably get me to recite in around four seconds and that's including all the ummms.
Sadly, I timed everything wrong, and what should have been a simple case of putting new website in place of old website on existing domain didn't happen because the previous hosting and maintenance company decided to pull the plug a week early.
So that wasn't very helpful, particularly when a full page containing the URL to the website was included in the event brochure for a huge industry shindig I was at the other day.
Money down the drain.
I'm not telling you all this because I'm a grumpy bastard who wants to vent.
I mean, I'm partly telling you this for that reason, but there's also a wider business and marketing point to it.
And this is it...
Sometimes shit goes down that's absolutely not ideal for your visibility, and there's absolutely nothing you can do about it.
The LinkedIn thing would have really bothered me a couple of years ago, because I used to get about 90% of my business through LinkedIn.
The website thing wasn't at all ideal, because nobody who saw my ads at the event would have been able to find out more about my company or what we do to help podcasters and would-be podcasters. They were instead greeted with an embarrassing "this site is down" message.
They still will be if they go to my old domain address.
Why the fuck am I so calm about it all?
That's a good question,
Honestly, it was a combination of things.
Firstly, LinkedIn is a bit of a joke now, which means I don't take it at all seriously as a revenue generator. Yes, I get the odd consultancy or audit from it... oh that reminds me - I'm currently offering a discount on my audits for the next month only. You can book here - https://podmastery.co/audit-offer....
... and so I didn't feel that was a massive loss, other than missing the updates from my LinkedIn 'friends'.
Secondly, the website going down was kind of cathartic. Since the previous version was utter shit. This means I now feel like I'm starting from the new beginning with an all new look and vibe.
Yes, I'm currently missing a chunk of SEO juice - mostly being the top result for "podcast consultant" around the world - but I wasn't exactly getting a ton of conversions from that traffic anyway, since the site was so pitifully dire.
Here's the deal.
Most of my clients come through from my podcast. And the remaining ones come through either these emails I send you, or recommendations.
So as long as my podcast survives, my business thrives.
Particularly as long as the quality and engagement stays high - which according to the data certainly seems to be the case.
And this is something I'd urge you to think about too.
Cool that you have your flashy website, and your YouTube series and your thousands of followers on social media.
But the platforms (and in some cases like mine even your own website hosting company) can silence you at any moment if you do or say something they don't like.
But your emails and your podcast they have ZERO control over. That's your property that only YOU get to click 'publish' or 'cancel' on.
And we like that. This makes us happy creators with big smiles because we have predictable and scalable results!
But it's not enough just to feel clever and breathe a sigh of relief.
Your content has to be decent enough to get people clicking in the first place.
And while I can't do much about your email game, cuz, not my wheelhouse... I can help you get the best results from your podcast.
And this means you don't just get more control over your platforms, you also get more control over your outcomes.
If you want me to help you fix your podcast's lack of results, I can do that in weeks.
Just click the above link to take advantage of the short term discount.
