Hey,
It's true. Podcasting isn’t always as easy as something you do without thinking - like, brushing your teeth.
Some days, it all comes together, and other days it feels like you're going to the dentist. You know, cuz you didn't think to brush your teeth.
We’ve all been there. With the podfade, I mean. Not the feeling embarrassed because we didn't brush our 'teefs'. That's just gross. Shame on you.
Yep, staring at that blank page of ideas, wondering where the spark went. It happens to a lot of us.
But here’s the thing... every podcaster, even the ones who seem like they’ve got it all together, hits a wall at some point.
The trick isn’t to avoid the tough times.
It’s knowing how to push through them.
So, if you’re not feeling the podcasting love right now, here are a few tips to help you relight that fire so hard you make Lulu screech with joy.
Remember Your Purpose
Let’s start with the big one.
Why did you start podcasting in the first bloody place?
What was it that got you so excited to plug in that mic and hit record?
Was it to share your passion?
To connect with others?
To make a difference?
Whatever it was, reconnect with that purpose. When things get tough, sometimes all you need is a reminder of why you began this whole thing.
If you’re struggling to define that purpose, or if you feel like you’ve lost sight of it, I’m here to help.
Sometimes a fresh perspective is all you need to get back on track.
Take a Break, and Don’t Feel Guilty!
Burnout is real, and it can sneak up on you when you least expect it.
If you’re feeling drained, give yourself permission to step back for a bit.
Take a week off, a month, or however long you need to recharge.
You’ll be amazed at how a little time away can help clear the cobwebs and bring new ideas to the surface.
And no, taking a break doesn’t mean you’re failing.
In fact, it’s often the most productive thing you can do.
Particularly if you're several episodes deep in.
People will forgive a bit of a wait for your next episode.
They won't forgive a crap episode from a disillusioned podcaster.

Shake Things Up
Sometimes, the rut isn’t about podcasting itself.
It’s about doing the same thing over and over.
So try something new!
Experiment with a different format.
If you're guest-based go solo.
If you're solo try guests.
Maybe ask for feedback and make that an episode in itself.
People love being involved.
Or explore a different aspect or topic within your wheelhouse.
Shaking things up can give you a fresh perspective and remind you that podcasting is supposed to be fun, not a chore.
Focus on Progress, Not Perfection
We all want our podcasts to be top-notch, but the quest for perfection can be a creativity killer. Also, it's easy for people like me to wang on about quality and creativity, but we do this for a living.
You probably don't.
So instead of obsessing over every little detail, or comparing what you're making to what the pros are making, focus on the progress you’re making.
Celebrate the wins.
Whether it’s a great interview, hitting a new listener milestone, or simply getting an episode out when you didn’t think you could.
Remember, it’s as important to enjoy the process, as it is to revel in the outcome.
